Bookend Speaker is a functional product design project that reimagines an existing speaker as a dual-purpose object. The goal was to design a fully functional speaker housed within the form of a bookend, requiring the object to match the height of a standard bookend, maintain a flat back to support books, and incorporate enough depth and mass to provide stability.The project began with the deconstruction of a pre-existing speaker, repurposing its internal PCB and components as the technical foundation for the redesign. A new structural frame was then developed to securely house the electronics while optimizing sound output and usability within the bookend form. This project explores how constraints, reverse engineering, and thoughtful form development can transform everyday electronics into an integrated, multifunctional object.
